With spectacular megaprojects cropping up in Dubai every season, the destination won’t only be marvelous in the coming decades, but it will feel nearly otherworldly. Dubai Reefs, a 200-square-kilometer artificial reef featuring more than 100 million mangroves; will shape the City of Gold as the World’s largest ocean restoration project. Net-Zero developer URB will give wings to the sustainable floating community focused on marine research, regeneration, and ecotourism.

An imperative issue will be addressed and worked upon, and the project will yield more than 30,000 jobs in fields like residential, hospitality, retail, educational, and research facilities.

‘The marine institute will be the heart of the project, working towards greater protection of Dubai’s marine and coastal environment. It aims to accelerate the city’s marine science and conservation capacity while building the most diverse artificial reef, covering 200 square kilometers. It also aims to create a home to more than 1 billion corals & 100 million mangrove trees,’ stated URB.

Dubai knows how to attract tourists like the back of its hand, and with Dubai Reefs, it won’t be any different. Tourists will explore marine ecotourism in a luxurious style with floating eco-lodges powered by 100% renewable energy like solar and hydropower. Responsible tourism is the future, and Dubai Reefs will give it form and function. This will be implemented by commuting tourists via electric boat shuttles to Dubai Reefs, residing in eco resorts and lodges, and indulging in unique eco-activities such as underwater forest bathing.

Guests will get a chance to become more involved with this vibrant habitat, including more than a billion corals and nearly 100 million mangrove trees. Edutainment classes at The Marine Institute will impart an understanding of the enveloping ecosystem while redefining the ocean to guests as more than a mere water body.

“The health of our cities is intrinsically tied to the health of our oceans. The ocean is the source of life, controlling everything. Given that everything on our planet is connected, a healthy ocean is a healthy city,” said Baharash Bagherian, chief executive of URB.”We need an entrepreneurial spirit in the planning of coastal cities and the types of infrastructure as well as developments that are linked to the ocean. As an innovative coastal city, Dubai is best positioned to lead such a transformation. Beyond creating a unique resilient destination for ecotourism and marine research, Dubai Reefs aims to become a blueprint for ocean living, while mitigating the impacts of climate change,” added Bagherian.
