The open-air photography exhibit entitled Dreamland has delighted visitors for  the past several weeks at the Jardin d’Acclimatation in Paris. Students from the Make Up For Ever Academy in Paris and Shanghai explore the infinite possibilities of makeup as art.

When she created Make Up For Ever in 1984, Dany Sanz avowed a desire to establish makeup as an art: “Body art helped me to express myself, like a painter on a canvas, but on the skin.”  Just as painters work with pigments, the makeup artists trained at the  Make Up For Ever Academy fuse colors and textures to create veritable artworks. The 2022 exhibition Nature Reconnection celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Make Up For Ever Academy showcased the deep affinity of its students with nature, drawing over 150,000 visitorsfrom Paris to Taiwan. This year’s Dreamland exhibition explores the connection between dreams and reality through 30 Body and Face Art creations. Displayed at the Jardin d’Acclimatation, the large format photos spotlight the talent of the students and their unbridled creativity. These “artworks in movement” immerse viewers in a captivating world both bewitching and surreal. Combining the gestures of a painter and the techniques of a makeup artist, the students delved into the art of dreaming through four compelling themes. Monochrome Sleep takes a black and white plunges into the oneiric world, while Graphic Faces reflects the faces of daydreams. Night Travel presents stunning trompe-l’oeil works thanks to body art, and Between World uses makeup to bridge the worlds of dream and reality.

The diversity of shapes, colors, postures and perspectives underlines the plurality of personalities and backgrounds of Make Up For Ever Academy students.

The Dreamland exhibition by the Make Up Forever Academy runs until May 29, 2023 at the Jardin d’Acclimatation.
